In 1294 the Florentine florin weighed 3.46 grams. In Florence itself a considerable number of different methods of accounting were used, based not only on the billon denari piccioli, but also on good silver grossi, and the gold florin. The basis for the Florentine florin accounting system was the Florentine denaro picciolo.
